In addition to the utilitarian and functional aspects of bike riding, it’s just plain fun! Riding a bike can bring you back to your childhood and can be a real thrill.

That said, don’t forget that many times when you’re riding a bike the best way to make it up that last hill is to stand and pedal- just watch those joints. Here are a few things to consider when you start biking:

• Choose a bike that is the right height. The best bet is to be fitted for a bike; be sure that when you pedal your leg is almost fully extended to prevent injury and to get the best workout.

• Be sure to wear safety gear: a helmet is a must
• Choose a comfortable seat- you’ll know after your first ride if you need to replace your seat.
• Reflective clothing should always be worn during dusk, nighttime and dawn rides
