Surely you have been bombarded by incessant infomercials and advertisements that claim that some new, fancy exercise contraption is all you need to get 6-pack abs in just six weeks. There are gadgets that send electric pulses to activate your muscles, shoes that apparently tone your glutes, and now there are weights that jiggle.
Do you really need all of this stuff to get fit? Of course not! But it may be hard to remember that when you are bombarded with seductive advertisements and tempting (yet often hollow) promises. The cold hard truth is that only YOU can make yourself be active and get moving—a gadget or gismo cannot and will not do this for you. Along the quest towards healthful living, there are no shortcuts; it’s a lifelong process. You will make mistakes, encounter setbacks and doubt your own motivation from time to time; but you will also reap tremendous benefits—mentally, physically and socially—if you stay the course and embrace the journey. This is all part of the process!
Now, this is not to say that there are no
useful tools that can help motivate, teach and train you along the way. Not all fitness products are gimmicks and not all fitness equipment companies are looking to make a quick buck. Many companies live, eat and breathe fitness and want to share this passion with you. Some of their products are actually invaluable and can help you reach new levels of fitness. The key of course is to separate the
real gems from the fake ones.
