Whenever you move, from something as simple as standing up to as complicated as doing a backwards flip on a balance beam, your first step is to tense your core region. You do this unconsciously, but it is extremely important for maintaining proper balance and poster to complete the motion. If you are lifting a heavy object, for example, key muscles in the core contract to form a stable, ball-like core region against which the force exerted by the object is lifted. Force originates from strength and power in the core region, which is then transferred across body regions to perform a movement. Without core stability the lower back is not supported and is exposed to injury by strain. It is important to maintain a strong and activated core in order to prevent lower back pain and to maintain appropriate posture.

A strong core helps to protect and control the position of your lower spine during dynamic movements. Core stability exercises help you to build lean muscle, shed fat, and most importantly, protect yourself from injury so that you can keep being active. Most core exercises can be performed at home. Remember that your body is its own best exercise device and gravity is the best weight! Good thing that you have both wherever you go!
