Many of us spend at least eight hours a day, 40 hours a week and 2000 hours a year sitting down, typing away not really moving except to get the bathroom, grab lunch and walk back to where we parked our cars (which we get into and sit some more). Some of us many find the time to go for a walk or even a run at the end of a long eight-hour day. While this is great, we cannot easily undo all the negative effects of sitting with a workout once a day. But don’t let this discourage you! There is plenty you can do throughout the work day to increase your health and you don’t even need to break a sweat.

The first step is taking stock of how much you are moving (or not moving) throughout the day. You may even want to write it down, what you find may shock you.  The second step is to find little ways to move throughout the work days and beyond. The third step is continuing to strive towards finding time to exercise every day. Exercise can help maintain weight loss, increase cardiovascular health and even make your bones stronger. Just as our ancestors moved all day, every day, we too should strive to move as often as we can; it may seem arduous at first, but the rewards far outweigh the barriers.
