Many people think that you have to slog it out on a treadmill for an hour every day in order to derive any cardiovascular health benefits. This sounds like such a bore! No wonder people would rather skip the gym than submit themselves to such torture. If only we could do something more exciting to improve our cardiovascular endurance and get our heart pumping. Well guess what! You can! And it is called lifting weights.
“But wait!” you say. “I thought that weigh training was only to make my skeletal muscles stronger, not my heart.” Well, the great thing about doing resistance training is that you can improve the strength of both your muscles and
your heart at the same time. You won’t get this from going at a steady-state on a treadmill or an elliptical training all day, no matter how much you sweat.
“So how does this work?” you ask. Well, most people don’t realize that learning the proper weight lifting exercises and techniques is only half of this story. The other half of the story is how you put these exercises
together in a series to accomplish certain fitness goals. Arranging your weight lifting program so that you're also getting a cardiovascular workout is both a time saver and a great workout.
