Your spirituality can pretty much be whatever you want to it to be. It can be linked to the essence of your religious beliefs or completely distinct from structured religious convictions. Spirituality is a reflection of your inner belief system; the system that is inherent in you when you were born and that you developed with input from your guardians and other figures who were important in  structuring your belief system.

With your inherent beliefs you can expand your mind to feel part of a larger whole: your family, your community, your country, the whole of mankind, the earth, the solar system, universe or your version of God. Being part of a whole can help you feel more relaxed and peaceful. Being part of a bigger whole can make you feel that you are not alone, and when you are not alone you have a greater capacity to manage stress because you know that in your life role as a part of the whole, you have access to resources to help you deal with these stressors.

One way to tap into this spirituality is to acknowledge and appreciate something bigger than yourself, a mountain or sunset for example.  These things and events are shared with all other people in the shared experience of life.
