Positive Emotions    Printable Version

Some people just have a sunny outlook on life, whether they were raised that way, or born that way, they have the amazing ability to see the glass as half full most of the time. Having this positive outlook can be very good for your mental and even physical health. On the flip side, those who consistently experience negative emotions are perpetuating the negative and almost self-fulfilling prophecy of negative thoughts and actions bringing more negative thoughts and reactions.

Even for the happiest people, keeping this positive outlook can take some work. One of the best ways to cultivate a positive attitude is to appreciate what you have. Instead of looking for more beyond what you have, or the capability to have, appreciate what is in front of you and try not to take advantage of the opportunities and resources you do have. Also try to appreciate and love yourself more. Loving yourself may be one of the most difficult things you can do, but it is one of the most powerful ways to cultivate positive emotions.

Another way to maintain or build on the positive is to find humor wherever you can. Laughter, is of course the best medicine, because it is one of the best ways to relieve stress and relax, both of which are excellent ways to dispel negative emotions and increase positive feelings. Try finding humor in everyday situations.
