Just like the plants and animals around us, we come alive in the spring and summer months. For those who live in a climate that changes with the season, the spring and summer months bring with them the heat we have been craving all winter long. We creep out of our cocoons and take to the outdoors. With longer, warmer days we are able to burn more calories doing the activities we enjoy.
 
Theses longer, warmer spring and summer days also bring with them the endless stream of cookouts, parties and other social events. These parties are a great time to catch up with friends and family but they’re also a good time for us to overdo the calorie intake.  Hamburgers, potato chips and ice cream are all known to play a starring role at cookouts across America. These foods are also known to play a starring role around your middle, and erasing all the hard work you spend preparing healthful meals all week.
 
Instead of mindlessly eating the summertime treats we have come to accept as just part of the cookout circuit, change it up! Bring a healthful fruit salad, or baked potato chips instead of their fried cousins. A little thinking and planning can go a long way when it comes to eating healthfully this spring and summer.
