Kitchen Basics    Printable Version

Maybe you’re stepping into the kitchen for the first time, or coming back to the oven after a long time away- Welcome! Many people stay away from the kitchen because they think that it will be difficult, time consuming or messy. None of which needs to be true.  Learning the basics is essential and having the right tools and equipment will make cooking a lot more fun.

One of the best reasons to start, or continue cooking, is for your health. Foods prepared at home are healthier; they often leaner, have less sodium and usually the portion you make for yourself is closer to what a real serving is- not the behemoth portion you get at a restaurant. Cooking will also save you money in the long run. While you may have to buy a few new tools or pieces of equipment, overall the money you save not buying take-out will be substantial.

Another thing to remember when cooking is proper food safety. Food poisoning caused by germs and gem byproducts send thousands of people to the hospital every year, don’t be one of them.

Getting into the kitchen can be rewarding and fun, try it tonight.
