You may not know what an absolutely pristine and perfect diet is for your children but you’re be pretty sure that a bagel for breakfast, boxed macaroni and cheese for lunch and chicken nuggets with ketchup for supper is not ideal. Kids can be so picky as they develop taste and texture preferences so don’t forget that it sometimes takes about 12 exposures before a child will accept this new food. This is important to remember as you start feeding your family “makeovers” of the traditional foods they have loved for years; it may be tough at first but it will get easier.
A meal that has been made over still has many of the same taste attributes the original recipe had but it’s healthier. Whether it has more fiber, fewer calories, or less fat it is a leaner version of the food your family loves. The great thing about making over a meal is that it is scalable. It can be as simple as switching the pasta in a dish to a whole wheat version, or as complex as overhauling an entire recipe, it’s entirely up to you. Start today to make your family’s favorites in a whole new way.
