Have you ever seen kids run around at a family party, having a blast and oblivious to the fact that they are actually exercising? Ah to be a kid again and
enjoy moving for the fun of it. Well why can’t you? We are designed to move, not to sit in front of a computer screen or television for hours on end; our bodies actually enjoy being used for their intended purpose. Unfortunately somewhere in the teen years, the connection between movement and fun were forgotten for many of us. Moving and exercise became a chore to be done to appease the scale or our doctor. But why? There are so many fun activities that can be considered exercise. They don’t involve long arduous trips to the gym; the only criterion is that you keep moving.
Whether walking,
exergaming or hula
hooping, moving can, and should, be fun. It’s important to choose activities that you enjoy doing. These activities can change over time and season, you may enjoy hiking in the fall, snowball fighting in the winter and playing Marco Polo all summer long. There are many opportunities to be a kid again but you have to look for them and be prepared to be silly.
