Finding Your Inner Voice: Beginning a New Relationship with Yourself
How genuine is your relationship with yourself? Do you recognize the authenticity of your inner voice as a wise and trustful guide? Have you become disconnected from your essential nature as you pursue security and pleasure as a means to contentment?
Regardless of how successful or accomplished we may appear, many of us will arrive at a point in our lives when we feel a sense that our lives have gone off track. We feel discontented and somehow confused that despite our acquisitions and achievements, we don’t feel content. Sound familiar? Then you have already entered into a relationship with your true self.
The starting point for reconnecting with our inner light, or true self, often begins with the recognition of a persistent inner voice, a sense of desire that may begin as a mere whisper, but soon becomes undeniably evident as truth. We tune in allow it to speak.
“This is who I am.”
As we begin to tune in to the times and events that generate this significant feeling, we sense a shift in our selves as we begin to feel more grounded and connected to life in an essential way. We each have a genuine authentic voice that often becomes overshadowed by the harsh external voices that have been our earliest companions and judges, constantly reminding us that we are not good enough.
Separating external voices from internal ones can only be done by tuning in to the voices and determining which ones feel authentic. They may not always feel good, but they have an undeniable “realness” or “knowing” quality. External voices serve an agenda generally designed to deny our own reality and place someone else’s wants or desires before our own. By repeatedly answering the external voices, we ultimately deny ourselves the opportunity to embrace and validate our own needs and allow the external voices to influence our behavior.
As we come to recognize the difference between the two voices we can begin to choose how we respond to them, ultimately shifting our life decisions and experiences to reflect our new awareness and connection to our true selves.
